New Apple’s iPad Pro not just ditched
the home button but also it also enabled a switch from cthe ompany’s
proprietary lightning connector to a more common USB-C connector. With
the help of that USB-C connection, you can use a huge variety of
accessories with iPad including external monitors too.
Apple made this announcement during the launch of iPad Pro. It is not as easy to access as it may appear.
It is not really a new feature
With the help of an HDMI adapter, it has always been easy to mirror your iPad’s display to an external monitor.
The newly launched iPad Pro makes it
much easier to do so. Thanks to its new USB-C port. It makes it possible
to work with the monitor that is having a resolution up to 5K.
What would you require
Not all of the USB-C are equally
created. For instance- the new iPad Pro doesn’t support Thunderbolt 3
displays even though the connector looks identical to USB-C connector.
It uses the Displayport standard but
needs a high-speed cable to output at 5K resolutions. Apple suggests
some other cable as a means to unlock the full throughput.
There is an excellent example of how
difficult it is to navigate what will work and when will it work. LG’s
Ultrafine 5K Display relies on Thunderbolt 3 and won’t work with iPad
Pro.
If the monitor has USB-C to USB-C connection, you will be able to connect directly to iPad Pro with the appropriate cable
For all other monitors, you will require a proper adapter.
Some of the monitors will also give power to iPad Pro.
How does the app behave
For most of the parts, connecting iPad
Pro to monitor will mirror the display of your iPad. Whatever you see on
the iPad is what you see on the monitor. Some of the apps can do more
with the second screen.
While using the iMovie, you can either
have an editing screen shown on a monitor or you can choose to have
projects output displayed on the screen by selecting the external
display button. In the photos section, pictures are being presented with
a black background on the external monitor. When a video is being
played, it is only shown on the monitor.
Other apps such as Adobe’s Lightroom
don’t give the option to choose what is shown where. It instead shows
the edited photo on external display all times.
